In a recent Instagram post, Qutaiba Hassoon, owner of Falafel Time in Portland, announced that the restaurant would be closing immediately. According to Hassoon, the decision was made due to a combination of factors including his parents’ health and a shortage of staff.

The restaurant had been successful since its October 2021 opening, but Hassoon mentioned that his father’s health issues were a major factor in the closure. His father had been working long hours despite his health problems, and the family felt it was time to take a break and focus on recovery. Despite considering hiring more staff to help, they struggled to find reliable workers. Ultimately, they made the tough decision to close the restaurant for the best interest of their family.

Hassoon acknowledged that it was difficult to walk away from a successful business, but he believed it was the right choice given the circumstances. As they take time to recover, he mentioned that he might look for another job outside of the restaurant industry. The closure of Falafel Time marks the end of a chapter for the family business, but they are prioritizing their well-being and family health moving forward.
