In October 2023, the Bio-inspired sensor technology challenge was launched with the goal of finding solutions in the field of neuromorphic sensors for use in Detection & Tracking applications. Neuromorphic sensors are electro-optical sensors that mimic the functionality of the retina, similar to the human eye. This category includes event-based sensors that respond to changes in light intensity, sensors that replicate the dynamics of the human eye, and sensors that use neuromorphic processing.

The Bio-inspired sensor technology challenge attracted many participants from around the world, all vying for a chance to collaborate with Leonardo on their projects. The winners of the challenge were awarded a 12-month contract for direct collaboration with Leonardo. Among the winners was EYE-TECH start-up from Carrara, whose project, EYE2DRIVE – Building the digital EYE, was coordinated by Monica Vatteroni and Andrea Raggi.

EYE2DRIVE is an innovative project that combines advanced sensor technologies with artificial intelligence to create a new generation of digital eyes. The project aims to revolutionize Detection & Tracking applications by providing real-time visual data and insights that can be used to improve safety and efficiency in various industries such as transportation and manufacturing.

Monica Vatteroni and Andrea Raggi are passionate about their work at EYE-TECH start-up. They are excited about the potential of neuromorphic sensors and believe that they can change the way we perceive and interact with our environment. They are committed to working closely with Leonardo to develop new solutions in this exciting field.
