The India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2024 match, scheduled for June 9 at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York, is being held with increased security measures. This was done in response to a threat of a “lone wolf attack” received by Long Island authorities. Despite no evidence to support the threat, precautions have been put in place to ensure the safety of all attendees.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman emphasized that all threats are taken seriously and has added around 100 extra police officers to the usual staffing for the event. Additionally, Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder has promised that there will be the largest security in the country’s history to ensure that Nassau County will be the safest place to be on June 9.

New York City Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed that her administration has been collaborating with Nassau County and federal law enforcement to guarantee the security of visitors and residents during the World Cup matches. She highlighted the coordination with the New York State Police Counter Terrorism Unit and implemented elevated security measures in response to this situation.

The USA is hosting its first cricket tournament similar in scale to the World Cup at Nassau County Cricket Stadium as a venue for eight matches, including India vs Pakistan game. With a significant South Asian community in America, it is expected that there will be a large turnout for this Group A match between two Asian powerhouses.
