Recently, participants in a class sponsored by the University of Arkansas Osher Lifelong Learning Institute had the opportunity to learn about how drones are used in geographic study at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

During the class titled “Geographic Observation with Drones,” Assistant Professor of Geosciences, Brad Peter, demonstrated the use of drones by placing one on a launching and landing pad while attendees watched from beneath a tree. Students learned about the history of drones, their general workings, and how they are used in scientific research.

Professor of Geography and Chair of the Department of Geosciences, Jason Tullis, also piloted a drone during the class to give students a hands-on experience with the technology. The class provided valuable insights into the ways drones contribute to geographic study and scientific research.
