The Northeast Greenland National Park, located within the Arctic Circle, is the largest national park in the world, covering an area of 972,000 square kilometers (375,000 square miles). This vast wilderness is twice the size of the next biggest protected area and is completely uninhabited by humans. Most of the park consists of frozen tundra, with the Greenland Ice Sheet covering a significant portion of the land.

Despite its remote location, this national park has become increasingly popular among nature enthusiasts due to its teeming wildlife and harsh yet beautiful conditions. The Danish naval unit known as the Sirius Dog Sled Patrol polices the park and enforces strict rules that ban motorized transport. Visitors can only access the park using dog sleds or cruise ships that dock at the coastal settlement of Ittoqqortoormiit.

The Northeast Greenland National Park is home to several endangered species such as polar bears, arctic foxes, Greenland wolves, narwhals, and walruses. Despite its harsh conditions, it remains a popular destination for those seeking adventure in one of Earth’s most remote places.

Compared to other national parks around the world like the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve in Alaska, this national park stands out as an expansive and untouched wilderness that offers a unique experience for those seeking adventure in one of Earth’s most remote places.
