On World Bee Day, a group of honeybees can be seen busy sucking nectar from lotus flowers. The day was chosen as a tribute to a Slovenian in the 18th century who pioneered modern beekeeping techniques. Honey bees are fascinating creatures with pairs of wings and eyes. They also perform a dance to communicate the location of food sources, known as the waggle dance.

One of the most important substances used in beekeeping is “propolis,” which is used in the construction of the beehive and for preserving honey and other perishables. Enzyme Invertase plays a critical role in changing sucrose into equal parts glucose and fructose after the nectar is collected, which is the beginning of honey production.

Inside the hive, male bees that do not have a stinger are known as drones. These drones are responsible for mating with queen bees to produce new offspring. However, once they have completed their duty, they are typically driven out of the hive and left to die shortly after.
