Aron Bowman, President of ELM MicroGrid and ELM Solar, recently sat down with Rod Walton, the managing editor of Microgrid Knowledge, to discuss the latest trends in microgrid adoption and new technologies. The conversation delved into the evolving landscape of microgrids, focusing on their growth in areas such as EV charging infrastructure, municipal utilities, and renewable thermal solutions.

During the interview, Bowman emphasized the challenges facing EV charger deployments, particularly the interconnect challenge. He identified this as a major obstacle to widespread adoption and highlighted the value of microgrids in supporting the EV market by integrating renewable energy sources and managing site demand effectively.

Bowman also shared an innovative technology that he believes has great potential in driving advancements in microgrid technology – Virtue Hot HD, a solar thermal solution that provides an alternative to traditional PV systems. He shared a success story at Creighton University where this technology was applied to optimize efficiency and move closer to net-zero energy goals when combined with heat and power (CHP) systems and energy storage.

Overall, the conversation underscored the importance of innovative approaches and partnerships in driving advancements in microgrid technology and sustainable energy solutions. It highlighted the potential for microgrids to play a key role in shaping the future of energy infrastructure and addressing the challenges of climate change.
