These events offer a unique opportunity for visitors to experience science and history tours of Gibraltar Island and the South Bass Island Lighthouse.

On Fridays and Saturdays until July 27, the South Bass Island Lighthouse grounds will be open to the public from dawn to dusk. Guided tours will be available during these hours, providing visitors with an up-close look at the natural beauty of Lake Erie and its ecosystem. Stone Lab experts will showcase live fish and wildlife to educate the public about the various species that call Lake Erie home. Each week’s tour will focus on a different topic related to Lake Erie, such as island birds, native fishes, and pollinators and their habitats.

Visitors can also explore Gibraltar Island during Thursdays from June 13 to August 15. The island is home to several historic landmarks, including Perry’s Lookout, Cooke Castle, and the glacial grooves. Tours have limited space for 70 participants and require purchasing tickets in advance as well as additional cash for transportation.
