On June 4, the Department of Health and Human Services announced that ten new states have been added to its Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic Medicaid Demonstration Program. This program offers sustainable funding to help states expand access to mental health and substance use services.

The eight states already part of the program have seen significant improvements in their ability to provide these crucial services. The addition of these new states aims to replicate this success across the country.

Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) must ensure access to a comprehensive range of services that include care coordination and evidence-based practices. These services are tailored based on a community needs assessment, which also includes providing 24/7 crisis services. CCBHCs are also required to offer routine outpatient care within 10 business days.

The expansion of this program is expected to improve access to mental health and substance use services for individuals in need across the country. By providing sustainable funding and requiring specific services to be provided, the program works towards expanding and enhancing the availability of these crucial services.
