Last September, Exeter scored a stunning 1-0 victory over then Premier League side Luton Town in the Carabao Cup, marking their first win over a top-flight team since January 1981. The winning goal was scored by Demetri Mitchell, the 27-year-old winger who has recently signed a new one-year contract with the League One club.

Mitchell has been in impressive form for Exeter despite suffering a season-ending knee ligament injury in their Carabao Cup last-16 loss to Middlesbrough on October 31. He joined Exeter from Hibernian in January 2023 and has played 33 games for the Devon side, scoring four goals.

Exeter boss Gary Caldwell praised Mitchell’s contributions to the team and highlighted his significance on the pitch. According to Caldwell, Mitchell’s return to full fitness is a valuable addition to the squad and they are thrilled to have him on board for another year. Mitchell expressed his gratitude for the support he received during his recovery and how close he feels to the club, emphasizing the understanding and connection he has developed with the team.

In addition to Mitchell, young goalkeeper Harry Lee has also agreed to a new one-year deal with Exeter. The 19-year-old, who has made limited appearances for the club, spent last season on loan at non-league teams Weston-super-Mare and Salisbury City. Caldwell praised Lee’s potential and emphasized the importance of gaining more playing time through loan spells. The club believes in Lee’s capabilities and hopes he can fulfill his potential in the upcoming season.

The news of Mitchell’s return to full fitness is a boost for Exeter as they prepare for their next match against Southend United in League One action tomorrow evening at St James Park stadium.

Mitchell expressed his excitement about returning to action after months of rehabilitation saying “I am thrilled to be back out there playing again with my teammates.” He added “I am grateful for everyone who supported me during my injury recovery process and I am looking forward to contributing even more this season.”
