The Los Angeles Lakers have secured the services of 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny James, through a multi-year guaranteed contract, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic. This contract ensures that James will be an established player on the team alongside his father, LeBron James when the 2024-25 season begins. It is rare for second-round picks to receive guaranteed contracts as they usually have to prove themselves in NBA Summer League and training camps to secure a two-way deal.

However, Bronny James’ agent, Rich Paul, made it clear that he would not settle for anything less than a guaranteed deal for his client in an interview with Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report. Paul emphasized that his client deserved a guaranteed contract and leveraged his reputation in the NBA to secure one. While it is uncommon for second-round picks to receive guaranteed contracts, there have been instances where players like Jalen Pickett and Chris Livingston signed respectable deals after being picked in the second round of last year’s draft.

Bronny James had a standout game against Oregon State while at USC and showcased his potential on the court despite averaging just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game during his freshman year at USC. With this new opportunity with the Lakers, he will have the chance to develop into a top player in the league while also making history as part of the first father-son duo to compete in the league together.
