Marion Marechal, leader of the French far-right party Reconquete, met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at Palazzo Chigi yesterday. The meeting was announced by Marechal on her social media account, where she posted four photos with the Prime Minister. During the meeting, Marechal expressed her desire to form an alliance between the center and the right in the European Parliament to shift Europe towards the right.
Despite polls indicating that Reconquete may not reach the 5% threshold needed to enter the European Parliament, it remains a prominent player within the French right-wing political landscape led by the National Rally (RN). Voter intentions are described as “very volatile” according to polls by the Elabe institute, with a significant portion of voters still undecided and likely to change their minds before the elections, particularly on the left.
The lead candidate for RN, Jordan Bardella, is currently polling at 32.5%, placing him well ahead of Valerie Hayer and Raphael Glucksman from the center-right and center-left respectively. Other right-wing opposition parties, such as Les Republicains, are also expected to fall below the 5% threshold in the upcoming elections.
