According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, JJ Redick will be formally interviewing for the head coaching position with the Los Angeles Lakers this weekend. Redick, a former NBA player and current ESPN broadcaster, is expected to be a top candidate for the job after a good interview with Lakers executives. This news comes after University of Connecticut head coach Dan Hurley declined a lucrative offer to stay with the Huskies, potentially opening up the opportunity for Redick to lead the Lakers.

Redick has already spoken with Lakers VP and GM Rob Pelinka at the NBA Draft Combine in May and now he will have a formal meeting with Pelinka and Lakers owner Jeanie Buss about the coaching vacancy. In addition to Redick, New Orleans Pelicans assistant coach James Borrego has also been linked to the Lakers job, with reports indicating that the Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in him as well. The coaching decision is an important one for the Lakers as they look to bounce back from a disappointing season and return to championship contention.
