Gudaf Tsegay is preparing for another impressive year in 2024, as she sets her sights on breaking world records once again. Last year, she narrowly missed out on breaking the 3000m world indoor record with a remarkable run of 8:16:60. Additionally, she became the third-fastest woman in the history of the 1500m race. Despite her impressive performances, she fell short of breaking Faith Kipyegon’s world record at the Diamond League in Xiamen, running a time of 3:50.

Tsegay has temporarily put aside her quest for world records as she focuses on improving her personal best in the 5000m event. She is determined to slash 28 seconds off her current best time of 29:29.73 set in 2023. The current world record holder in the 10,000m event, Letesenbet Gidey, set a time of 29:01.03 in June 2021.

As the Olympics approach, Tsegay’s focus intensifies as she strives to achieve her ultimate goal of becoming an Olympic champion. While she has won indoor and world championships, she is eager to add an Olympic gold medal to her collection. Inspired by the achievements of athletes like Tirunesh Dibaba and Sifan Hassan, who have excelled in multiple events at the Olympics, Tsegay is considering competing in multiple events at the upcoming Games in Paris. She is determined to reach new heights and leave a lasting legacy in the world of track and field.
