The Ethiopian 10,000m Olympic trials held in Nerja, Spain were a thrilling affair that saw Yomif Kejelcha emerge victorious. The 26-year-old set a new lifetime best time of 26:31.01 to take the win in a tight sprint against Berihu Aregawi, who also improved his personal best with a time of 26:31.13.
The race was one of the highest quality 10,000m events ever, with four men finishing inside 26:40 and six men finishing inside 26:50 for the first time. Among them was 17-year-old Biniam Mehary who finished fourth in a world U20 record time of 26:37.93, breaking a mark that had stood for 19 years.
