ESPN and NFL reporter Ed Werder have parted ways for the second time, with Werder announcing his departure on Thursday. The network confirmed the news, ending Werder’s long run with the company.

In 2017, Werder was part of a mass layoff at ESPN, but he returned two years later. According to the New York Post’s Matt Ehalt, Werder’s contract was set to expire this summer and ESPN had no plans to renew it. This allowed Werder to begin looking for opportunities for the 2024 season.

Werder had specialized in covering the Cowboys, a key aspect of NFL coverage, making his skills valuable for any network. While ESPN may not be renewing Werder’s contract, there could be opportunities for him elsewhere in the future. Perhaps another network will see the value in Werder’s expertise and bring him on board. Only time will tell where Werder’s career will take him next, but it’s possible he could make a return to ESPN for a third time in the future.
