Enzo Maresca is reportedly set to become the new manager of Chelsea, with indications that he will be given time to establish himself as long as he meets certain performance expectations and does not create friction with the club’s leadership. This possibility was discussed on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club by Nizaar Kinsella, a football news reporter for BBC Sport. Currently the manager of Leicester City, Maresca is in discussions to replace Mauricio Pochettino, who recently departed after a single season at Stamford Bridge.

Kinsella mentioned that while there is an intention to be patient and allow Maresca to settle into the role, he will need to maintain a positive relationship with everyone at the club and avoid causing disruptions. Pochettino may have clashed with the owners and sporting directors, leading to his departure. The expectation for Maresca will be to deliver a certain level of performance to earn time and avoid creating conflicts. The ultimate goal for Chelsea is to achieve a top-four finish in the league, or ideally secure a spot in the Champions League.

There are indications that Maresca may be offered a five-year contract, suggesting a long-term plan similar to what was envisioned with Graham Potter. The club is looking to Maresca to help build a strong foundation and elevate Chelsea to a higher level of success. As they have invested significantly and have ambitious ownership, the pressure will be on Maresca to deliver results and continue the club’s progression. The complete episode of Monday Night Club can be viewed on BBC iPlayer or listened to on BBC Sounds.
