After a gunman opened fire in the lobby of Lakewood Church, Houston law enforcement leaders are taking steps to ensure that the officers involved in the shooting receive mental health care. The shootout between the suspect and law enforcement resulted in the death of Genesse Ivonne Moreno, who was shot and killed by an officer with the Houston Police Department and an officer with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

The Houston Police Officers’ Union has stated that both officers involved in the shooting will have access to peer support teams from their department and union. They will also receive any necessary psychological treatment. The union has reached out to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to offer mental health resources to their officer involved in the shooting as well.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is ongoing, which is a crucial step to ensure that they receive support and care during this time. It is essential to provide resources and support for law enforcement officers involved in traumatic and high-stress situations like this. The mental health and well-being of officers are just as important as their physical safety.
