In the second round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, England’s Aaron Rai put on an impressive display of golfing prowess, making seven birdies to shoot a seven-under-par 65. This score allowed him to share the lead with American Akshay Bhatia at 13 under, putting them two shots ahead of the rest of the field in Detroit.

Rai, a 29-year-old with two career wins on the DP World Tour, started building momentum with four birdies in five holes from the seventh. He finished his round strong with two additional birdies to secure his position at the top of the leaderboard. Rai expressed that he hasn’t made any significant changes to his game this year, instead focusing on maintaining solid fundamentals that have served him well.

Following closely behind Rai and Bhatia are South Africa’s Erik van Rooyen and Americans Cameron Young, Taylor Montgomery, and Troy Merritt, all tied at 11 under. Past champion Rickie Fowler is sitting at six under after an even-par 72 in his second round.

Three other English players, David Skinns, Callum Tarren, and Harry Hall, have also made the cut for the remainder of the tournament, showing a strong presence among the leaderboard. The competition remains tight as the players head into the third round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
