England may be considering a change in their formation to a back three against Switzerland for the Euro 2024 quarter-final, according to The Mirror’s chief football writer John Cross. This alteration could give Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold the chance to showcase his abilities with the ball. Currently, he has struggled to make an impact while playing in midfield.

Cross believes that Alexander-Arnold is the best passer and deliverer of the ball in the squad. Moving to a back three formation would provide England with an opportunity to maximize Alexander-Arnold’s strengths. However, it is unclear whether manager Gareth Southgate will make this change.

If Alexander-Arnold does not get the chance to play in this new formation, he may reflect on the tournament as another missed opportunity. He has only featured in midfield twice and has not been able to leave a lasting impression. This could lead to frustration for Alexander-Arnold if he does not get more playing time in the tournament.
