The Science Café event at Fort Hays State University is a free and open presentation that will take place on Monday, April 29 at The Venue in Thirsty’s Brew Pub & Grill. Sponsored by FHSU’s Science and Mathematics Education Institute (SMEI), this event provides an opportunity for individuals to learn more about the topic of endogenous retroviruses. Dr. Eric Gillock, professor of biological sciences at FHSU, will be giving a presentation titled “Endogenous retroviruses: Hidden hitchhikers and how they spread.” These viruses are genetic parasites that act like unwanted houseguests, showing up uninvited and never leaving.

The Science Café series features expert speakers who discuss various scientific topics in an engaging and informative manner. This event is perfect for anyone interested in learning more about endogenous retroviruses and their impact on eukaryotic cells. To find out more about the event or to ask questions, individuals can contact Cari Rohleder at cbrohleder@fhsu.edu or by calling 785-628-4743.
