Nearly 2.6 million people call Brooklyn home, making it the most populous borough in New York City. While it has recently gained a reputation as a cool and trendy area, for those who have lived, raised families, and contributed to the community over the years, Brooklyn has always been a vibrant and exciting place. As part of an initiative to empower young girls in this bustling borough, Catholic Telemedia Network, a service offered by DeSales Media, is hosting the second annual “Girls & STEM: Forging a Future” virtual conference on Monday afternoon, May 13.

The conference aims to connect 150 seventh and eighth-grade students from Catholic academies in the Diocese of Brooklyn with accomplished women who have made their mark in industries related to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The keynote speaker Tracey Campbell, Executive Vice President at LyondellBasell, a global chemical industry leader, will share insights into sustainable living solutions. Students will also have the opportunity to engage with engineers and scientists to learn more about potential careers in these fields.

The virtual conference is sponsored by Catholic Telemedia Network with support from Discovery Education’s STEM Careers Coalition. It’s an important initiative that seeks to inspire young girls in Brooklyn to explore opportunities in STEM fields and envision a successful future in these areas. Through this platform, they can connect with and learn from successful professionals in the industry who can provide guidance and support on their journey towards achieving their goals.
