The community-building fundraiser, ‘Get in the Game’, hosted by Adaptive Sports Northwest took place at the Mittleman Community Center in southwest Portland. For over four decades, this organization has been committed to helping physically and visually impaired individuals lead active and fulfilling lives.

The event brought together people from all walks of life to experience the joy of sports and build a sense of community. Athlete Evita Rush shared her inspiring journey, highlighting the shared experiences and sense of belonging among participants. The evening featured a diverse range of adaptive sports, including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, power soccer, pickleball, track events, swimming, and goalball. Attendees had the opportunity to try out these sports and discover new ways to stay active.

Executive Director Jen Armbruster, a four-time Paralympic medalist, spoke passionately about the growth of Adaptive Sports Northwest and the positive impact it has had on its participants. The organization aims to empower individuals with disabilities by fostering self-confidence, socialization, and independence through connection and inspiration. Athlete Griffin Barlow emphasized the importance of inclusivity and the desire for support and friendship within the community.
