The new era of the United States women’s national team (USWNT) has begun, with four upcoming friendlies before Emma Hayes takes on the challenge of improving their Olympic performance. Despite facing setbacks in 2016 and 2020, the USWNT has a rich history of success, winning gold in four out of five Olympics between 1996 and 2012.

Hayes, who previously managed Chelsea, took over as head coach in November 2023 and recently won his first match on June 1. The team’s performance under his leadership will be closely watched as they look to regain their form and contend for Olympic glory.

The USWNT has already played several matches in 2024, including wins against Dominican Republic, Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil, as well as a draw against Canada. They will face South Korea, Mexico, and Costa Rica in upcoming friendlies before entering the Olympics, where they will take on Zambia, Germany, and Australia in the group stage.

Looking back at 2023, the USWNT had a mix of results in friendlies and the World Cup, including wins against Wales, South Africa, Colombia, and China
