The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made significant strides towards potentially hosting an Olympic Esports Games. IOC members are set to vote on the creation of an Olympic Esports Games during a session scheduled for July 22-24, following a proposal by the IOC Executive Board.

The idea of an Olympic Esports Games was initially raised at an IOC session in October, prompting the IOC Esports Commission to quickly develop a clear concept. Since then, the IOC has been collaborating with the esports community while upholding its core values.

In 2021, the IOC introduced the Olympic Virtual Series as its first foray into esports. The series featured more than 130 players from around the world in ten mixed-gender events that were streamed online in partnership with international federations of Olympic sports.
