Autism is a developmental condition that can affect a person’s ability to communicate and socialize. The spectrum of autism ranges from mild to severe, with one out of 36 children in the United States being diagnosed with the condition.

A local non-profit in Yuma is working hard to support those affected by autism in their community. Their efforts include integrating individuals into community activities, helping with job searches, and participating in Special Olympics events. Francisco Medel, Residential Manager at Our Choice Human Services in Yuma, emphasizes the importance of including people with autism in community activities.

One way to show support for autism awareness is by wearing the color blue, which symbolizes calmness and acceptance. Additionally, making a donation or attending an awareness event are great ways to help promote acceptance and celebrate diversity. By coming together and recognizing the unique qualities of individuals with autism, we can create a more inclusive world for all.
