Elon Musk has been in discussions with the Trump administration about a potential role, though details are yet to be fully defined. The talks have centered on giving Musk formal influence on policies related to border security and the economy, areas where Musk has recently become increasingly vocal.

Despite their public feud two years ago, Trump and Musk have developed a friendly relationship in recent months, talking on the phone several times a month. They have discussed topics such as immigration, technology, and science, with Musk reaching out directly to Trump on his cell phone. Trump has expressed interest in getting Musk more involved if he wins the November election.

Musk, known for his unconventional approach in business, has indicated that he is not interested in simply providing financial support. Instead, he seeks to leverage his influence in the business and technology elite to support Trump’s re-election efforts. Musk has criticized what he calls the “vigilant mind virus,” referring to liberal policies like diversity, equity, and inclusion programs that he finds divisive.

The discussions about Musk’s possible role in the Trump administration and their collaboration on an election fraud prevention project took place at a meeting in Palm Beach, Florida in March. At the meeting, Musk, Peltz and Trump criticized Biden’s leadership. The relationship between Musk, Trump and Peltz extends beyond politics with their families also involved in the discussions.

Musk and Peltz have described their initiative to prevent election fraud but further details are not publicly available. This collaborative effort between Musk and Trump reflects a shift in Musk’s political stance as he publicly announced his support for the Republican party in 2022. The possibility of Musk serving as an adviser in the Trump administration is being likened to Yitzhak Perlmutter who advised Veterans Affairs during Trumps first term
