Just a day before a hearing was scheduled in a San Francisco court to determine the acceptance of a lawsuit, Elon Musk withdrew his claim against OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, and its co-founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman for breach of contract. Musk had filed the lawsuit in February, accusing OpenAI, Altman, and Brockman of breaching the contract by developing general artificial intelligence (AI) for economic reasons rather than for the benefit of humanity.

However, it turns out that Musk had previously served on OpenAI’s board until 2018 and alleged that Microsoft, the main shareholder of OpenAI, had transformed the project. In response to Musk’s lawsuit, Altman revealed in a 2023 article that Musk had offered to lead OpenAI in early 2018 but was rejected by the company’s founders. After leaving the board, Musk went on to create his own AI company called xAI which developed a chatbot named Grok integrated into the social network X formerly known as Twitter.
