Elmont school district recently held its annual Science Research Symposium, an event that invited community members, families and the administrative team to view students’ projects at Gotham Avenue School. The symposium was a great opportunity for students to showcase their hard work and dedication as they had been working on their research projects twice a week throughout the school year in preparation for the New York State Science and Engineering Fair (NYSSEF).

The NYSSEF Science Research Competition served as a practice run for the students, who were tasked with presenting their projects to judges from across Nassau County. Elmont’s science research advisors played a key role in preparing the students for this competition. They provided guidance and support throughout the process, helping the students refine their projects and perfect their presentations.

On June 3rd, Elmont’s sixth graders competed in the Thermo-Fischer Division at the NYSSEF Science Research Competition, held at Jamaica Avenue School in Plainview. They were up against students in grades 6-8 from various schools and had to present their research to four different judges. It was a challenging but rewarding experience for the students, who had put in countless hours of hard work to prepare for this competition. Their dedication paid off as they received recognition for their outstanding research projects.
