The College of the Canyons fire technology department has received $20,000 in funding from Edison International to provide scholarships to 21 students enrolled in the college’s fire technology program. Each recipient must have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher and submit essays about their career goals in the fire service to qualify for the scholarship.

Keith Kawamoto, chair of the College of the Canyons fire technology department, expressed his gratitude for Edison International’s continued support in helping students pursue their studies. The college offers fire technology courses within its School of Public Safety to meet the demand for fire department staffing in California, particularly in battling wildfires.

The fire technology program at COC provides certificate and degree opportunities for individuals looking to enter the field or advance their careers as professionals. The courses offered align with the established curriculum for California Community Colleges.
