Newcastle manager Eddie Howe expressed his disappointment at Chelsea’s decision to sack Mauricio Pochettino, calling it a “harsh” and “sad” moment for the English Premier League. Despite guiding Chelsea to a sixth-place finish and securing a spot in Europe next season, Pochettino was let go after just one year in charge.
Howe spoke to reporters after a post-season friendly win against Pochettino’s former club Tottenham and praised the Argentine manager’s abilities, describing him as a “very, very good manager” who has achieved success at various clubs around the world.
Despite rumors that Howe could be a contender for the vacant Chelsea manager position following Pochettino’s departure, Howe acknowledged that he had no interest in leaving Newcastle. He believed that Pochettino had done a “really good job,” particularly in the latter part of the season when Chelsea’s form improved.
As Chelsea looks for a new manager, Newcastle will continue their season with one more friendly match against an A-League All Stars team in Melbourne. Howe’s team finished the season in seventh place, just behind Chelsea in sixth.
