The first few months of 2024 have been a bustling time in Hazard and Perry County, Kentucky. Zach Lawrence, the Executive Director of the Hazard-Perry County Economic Development, is optimistic about the new job opportunities and businesses that are on track to make an impact in the area.

One of the major projects currently underway is the East Perry Development along Highway 80, which will soon be home to a Go-Time gas station and Moe’s Southwest Grill. The gas station is being built by a locally owned convenience store company, which Lawrence believes is an exciting example of locals investing back into their community.

In addition to the gas station, there are several other businesses in the pipeline at East Perry Development. A veteran affairs clinic and Quantum are currently under construction, with plans for multi-use athletic fields also in the works. Despite these developments, there are still roughly 50 acres available for future projects at East Perry Development.

Lawrence also mentioned plans for a 4 or 5-box retail addition to the current shopping center, which he believes will help attract more businesses to the area. A recent study has shown strong numbers in terms of population and traffic influx, which Lawrence believes will be appealing to prospective companies looking to move into Hazard.

The hope is to finalize the box retail deal soon and share the details with the community. With these new developments, Lawrence is confident that Hazard will continue to attract businesses and investment, making it a hub for commerce in the region once again.
