The Jamestown Museum’s summer exhibit is set to open on Saturday, showcasing signs and advertisements from businesses that once operated on Conanicut Island. The exhibit, titled “An Island Economy: Jamestown Businesses,” is a result of a submission from Delia Klingbeil in November that featured large signs for town businesses. Curator Rosemary Enright and Sue Maden, a member of the Jamestown Historical Society and treasurer for its board of directors, were inspired by the submission and decided to explore how these businesses played a role in the history and growth of the town.

The exhibit features large signs from Godena’s Garage and Lyons Market, as well as smaller indoor and outdoor signs, identification, and advertising media. Visitors can also learn about how Jamestown’s business offerings have evolved throughout history, with changes in areas such as agriculture and transportation.

The Jamestown Museum is located at 92 Narragansett Ave., and visitors can visit the museum from 1-4 pm on Fridays through Sundays until Columbus Day, as well as on federal holidays. The exhibit is sure to be an interesting look at Jamestown’s past business landscape.
