During the 2023 season, the Eagles faced disappointment in the final weeks and sparked a lot of discussion about what went wrong. One of the aspects that were analyzed was quarterback Jalen Hurts’ leadership style. Although he had been praised for his stability during the team’s run to the NFC title in 2022, questions arose about his approach as the Eagles struggled after a strong start to the season. Despite no public criticisms from within the team, right tackle Lane Johnson noticed a change in Hurts’ behavior. He stated on The Rich Eisen Show that Hurts has become more vocal and outspoken than before, highlighting a growth in their relationship.

Johnson explained, “Just this offseason, he’s really done a good job of bonding with his teammates. I feel like the connection has definitely grown. A really big offseason. The work ethic has never been an issue. Tremendous worker. But, just becoming a more vocal leader and, whenever he speaks, guys listen up.” Looking ahead to the 2024 season, there may be speculation about head coach Nick Sirianni and others if the Eagles do not improve significantly. However, Johnson expressed confidence in Hurts and reiterated that he is their quarterback moving forward.

Johnson said, “Every year is kind of a prove-it deal to everybody when you’re in that town. Jalen’s our guy moving forward. We love him, we respect him, and nobody puts in more work than he does.” The progress and results of Hurts’ efforts will be closely monitored and scrutinized by fans and analysts during the upcoming season as they look for improvement for both him and the team as a whole.
