The Eagles have been recognized as one of the contenders for the 10th annual Sports Humanitarian of the Year award by ESPN. This prestigious award honors athletes and sports figures who use their platform to make a difference in communities around the world. The Eagles were nominated for their work with the Eagles Autism Foundation, which was founded by Chairman and CEO Jeffery Lurie.
Lurie’s passion for this cause is deeply personal, as his brother Peter lives with a developmental and neurological disorder. The foundation was created to fund scientific breakthroughs, research, and create a shift from awareness to action. Since its inception in 2018, the organization has raised $30 million for research and care programs. In 2024, they raised over $8.1 million through the 5K Eagles Autism Challenge. The foundation has funded 116 autism research projects and community grants worldwide.
In addition to providing year-round support through initiatives such as a sensory room at Lincoln Financial Field, a neurodiverse employment program, and all-abilities programs, the Eagles Autism Foundation also funds scientific breakthroughs in the field of autism research. The winner of this award will be announced during the ESPYS airing live on July 11, 2024 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
