DuckDuckGo has recently unveiled a new tool called AI Chat that offers users the ability to access popular generative artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots anonymously. This tool is designed to address privacy concerns associated with the use of AI, by preventing user interactions from being used for training purposes. By removing the user’s IP address and using its own IP, conversations cannot be traced back to a single individual.
The use of the AI Chat tool is optional and can be accessed through its own website. Users can choose from a range of chatbots and large language models (LLMs) available, such as GPT 3.5 Turbo by OpenAI, Claude 3 Haiku by Anthropic, and open source options Mixtral 8x7B and Meta Llama 3. DuckDuckGo assures that it does not save or store any chats, although the providers of the models and chatbots may do so temporarily.
The company has agreements in place with model providers to ensure that any saved chats are completely removed within 30 days and that none of the chats made on their platform can be used to train or improve the models. In addition, DuckDuckGo plans to expand the options available in AI Chat by incorporating more chat models in the future, including self-hosted and user-hosted options.
