In a recent development, World Athletics has ratified two new world records for women. Firstly, Devynne Charlton from the Bahamas set a new indoor 60m hurdles record of 7.65 in Glasgow on March 3, 2024. This remarkable performance earned her the global title at the World Athletics Indoor Championships. Prior to this achievement, Charlton shared the world record of 7.67 with Tia Jones from the United States. After improving upon this record by just 0.02 seconds, Charlton expressed how significant this accomplishment was to her and acknowledged the hard work both on and off the track that led her to success.

In another event, Peres Jepchirchir from Kenya broke Mary Keitany’s previous women-only world marathon record at the TCS London Marathon on April 21, 2024. The race was highly competitive, with breaking Keitany’s record being a major goal for many runners in the field. Despite strong competition from other runners, Jepchirchir managed to achieve this feat and finished ahead of her competitors to claim the world record.

Jepchirchir’s victory in London marked a historic moment as it was the first time that four women had finished a marathon in under 2:17, showcasing how intense and competitive marathons can be for women runners.

Overall, these two achievements highlight not only exceptional athletic talent but also demonstrate how much dedication and hard work are required to reach such high standards.
