The Williston Basin School District is currently facing a major transition as its business manager, Kent Anderson, has recently resigned effective May 31. This marks the second time in less than two years that the district will be without a business manager, following the resignation of Sherri Heser in July 2022. Anderson, who was hired in January 2023, has been praised for his work in managing the district’s finances and assisting with petition audits with the North Dakota State Auditor’s Office.

Superintendent Richard Faidley has expressed gratitude for Anderson’s contributions to the district and commended him for his dedication to resolving the audits before leaving. Although Faidley declined to comment on the specifics of Anderson’s resignation until the board reviews it on May 28, he did mention that Anderson had been commuting from Dickinson several days a week and may have been ready to move on. Faidley also stated that Anderson had committed to redirecting the district and settling the audits before departing.

In response to Anderson’s departure, the school board will begin a nationwide search for a new business manager. In the meantime, another individual or accounting firm may be chosen to fill the role temporarily. Despite this turnover in the business manager position, Faidley emphasized that he views the situation as routine and anticipates a smooth transition to a new manager.
