Seize the Grey, who won the Preakness, finished second while Mystik Dan, who won the Kentucky Derby, came in third. Despite not having the Triple Crown on the line, this year’s event was highly anticipated due to the anticipated duel between previous race winners.
Throughout the race, Seize the Grey led from the inside post but was ultimately overtaken by Dornoch with a late surge on the inside. This victory was particularly satisfying for Dornoch after his disappointing performance in the Kentucky Derby where he finished in 10th place. Trainer Danny Gargan praised Dornoch’s talent and potential to win races, calling him one of the top 3-year-olds in the country. Co-owned by former World Series champion Jason Werth, Dornoch’s victory was a testament to his determination and hard work on and off the track.
