In August, the Dome Sports Center on US-131 in Schoolcraft will be getting a new dome. The 30-acre sports complex is undergoing renovations that include air conditioning, volleyball, pickleball, and basketball courts. The project was inspired by the center’s “Building the Miracle Field,” a baseball field that caters to wheelchair or visually-impaired players.

Owner Josh Baird explained that the project was aimed at creating a fully-accessible athletic facility for the community. “We want every athlete, regardless of their abilities, to feel at home and welcome here,” he said. The deflation of the old dome on Monday was seen as a milestone in fulfilling their vision, and the community was encouraged to celebrate this progression with the center.

Despite ongoing construction, summer camps, outdoor driving ranges, a flag football league, volleyball, and basketball programs will continue to be offered at the Dome Sports Center. This ensures that the community can still enjoy various sports activities while the center undergoes its transformation.
