On Thursday, the Dolphins officially announced the signing of safety Marcus Maye. Maye had been a free agent since being cut by the Saints in March. He previously signed a three-year, $22.5 million contract with New Orleans as a free agent in 2022 but missed as many games (17) as he played (17) in two seasons, including a three-game suspension.

To make room for Maye on the roster, the Dolphins decided to release defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon. Nixon had signed with the Dolphins in March after being selected by the Panthers in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. In his first two seasons, he recorded 15 tackles and a half-sack in 14 games but was waived by the Panthers in December 2022. Nixon briefly joined the Seahawks before spending the entirety of the 2023 season out of the league.
