The weather has finally cleared up, and sunshine is expected on Saturday for district baseball and softball teams. With the clear skies, there is hope that teams can take advantage of the good weather to play some postponed section games. However, the question remains whether the fields will be too soggy for play. Having a turf field can help in such situations. In softball, several WPIAL section games are scheduled for Saturday, including a big one between Western Beaver and West Allegheny. South Fayette and Mars are currently tied for first place in the section, while the Golden Beavers and Indians are averaging double-digit runs per game. The matchup between these two strong teams is expected to be an exciting one.

Meanwhile, in WPIAL lacrosse, there are games against teams from out of the district or state as well as battles within District 7 borders. Teams like Mars, North Hills, and Hempfield are set to play on the boys’ side. In girls lacrosse, Canon-McMillan, North Allegheny, and Moon are scheduled to play against their opponents. The districts are gearing up for some intense games over the weekend.

In baseball news, Hempfield catcher Caden Biondi made a play at home plate during their game against Central Catholic on April 3rd.

Two teams in District 7 baseball will finish their section series on a turf field at Gateway this weekend – Hempfield and Baldwin. The Spartans currently lead in first place with a perfect record.

Overall, it’s looking like an exciting weekend for district sports enthusiasts with many thrilling matchups taking place across different sports fields!
