Willow Bay and Bob Iger, the CEO of Walt Disney Co. and dean of USC Annenberg School respectively, are on the brink of investing in Angel City FC, a move that would make them the most valuable franchise in women’s professional sports. The proposed investment by the Bay Iger Co. is separate from their roles at Disney and USC. Reports suggest that the new investment would be around $50 million in addition to the team’s current valuation of $250 million.
If the investment goes through, Iger and Bay will take over ownership of the team from Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who is married to Serena Williams. Angel City FC has attracted a number of notable figures from the entertainment, finance, and sports industries. Including Natalie Portman as one of its co-founding partners, with smaller investments from Williams, Billie Jean King, Jennifer Garner, Eva Longoria, and former U.S. national team players Mia Hamm, Shannon Boxx, and Julie Foudy.
