On Friday, a phosphorus bomb from World War II was discovered during construction work for the new Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport. The bomb, which contained white phosphorus, was commonly used against Germany during the war and posed a significant risk to those in the surrounding area.

In response to the discovery, an exclusion zone was set up around the site with a radius of about 1,000 meters. The A5 motorway near the airport was temporarily closed as a precaution during the bomb disposal operation. Passengers were advised by the airport to allow extra time for travel and to arrive at the check-in counter early, as delays were possible.

Access to the airport and Cargo City South was closed off by police via the L3262 due to the discovery of the World War II bomb. The situation was handled carefully and the bomb was successfully defused, ensuring the safety of those in the surrounding area.

The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing presence of unexploded ordnance from past conflicts in certain areas. It is important for individuals and organizations to be aware of these risks and take necessary precautions when working or operating in such areas.
