Tchia, a captivating open-world indie game, has just been announced for release on the Nintendo Switch. The game was initially launched on PlayStation and PC last year and is now set to be released on the Switch on June 27. Nintendo unveiled the release date during the Triple-i Initiative 2024 indie showcase.

If you are not familiar with Tchia, you are in good company. The game was overshadowed by big releases like Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo 4, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Starfield. However, if you enjoy indie games that immerse you in culturally rich worlds and stories, Tchia is worth checking out. Inspired by New Caledonia, Tchia reflects the culture of the Kanaks, the indigenous Melanesian inhabitants of the region. The game aims to provide a sense of discovery and learning while exploring its world.

Exploration in Tchia is both delightful and enriched by the Soul-jumping mechanic, which offers new ways to navigate the world. The game features inventive minigames that contribute to the story, rewarding sidequests, and a heartfelt coming-of-age narrative. The game captures the essence of travel to a foreign country, highlighting the beauty of the fictional archipelago inspired by New Caledonia.

As a fan of Tchia, I am excited to play it again on the Switch. If you’re looking for other great Switch games to play while waiting for Tchia’s release, check out our weekly digests and explore more tales from your favorite communities!
