Differing Views on Peace: White House, Finnish, and French Leaders Condemn Russian Proposal for Ukraine

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan has condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s peace proposal as “completely absurd.” According to Sullivan, the proposal would only lead to further domination of Ukraine, which he described as a violation of international laws and principles.

Finnish president Alexander Stubb, who was also present at the summit, emphasized the importance of follow-up talks as soon as possible. He referenced Finland’s history with Russia, including the invasion during World War II that resulted in the loss of territory. Stubb’s personal connection to the history underscored the importance of ongoing discussions to maintain peace and prevent conflict.

On the other hand, French leader Emmanuel Macron has emphasized the importance of nuclear safety around the Zaporizhizhia power plant. He also condemned attacks on civilian targets and infrastructure in Ukraine as war crimes, despite Russia’s denial. Macron stressed the significance of upholding international laws and principles for the possibility of peace everywhere.
