Mon Health patients have the opportunity to participate in a free program called FARMacy, offered through the Vandalia Health Network. The program aims to address social determinants of health such as access to healthy food, financial distress, and social support, which can impact a person’s overall well-being.

The FARMacy course is specifically designed for patients managing diabetes and is a 15-week program focused on food and nutrition. Participants will have access to fresh produce, cooking tips, and physical education to help them make healthier lifestyle choices. Melissa Lockwood, Chief Administrative Officer of Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital, expressed the importance of providing patients with education and resources to maintain their health outside of the hospital.

The FARMacy program has been in high demand and is being offered for the second time thanks to the partnership with the Vandalia Health Network. To participate in the program, patients must be current patients of Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital with a diabetes diagnosis, HBA1C level greater than 7, and BMI greater than 30. They must also commit to pre- and post-lab work and weekly participation in the program. The program will take place on Fridays at the hospital from 10 to 11:30 a.m., starting July 28th with enrollment open until July 12th. Interested individuals can contact Pam George at Pamela.George@VandaliaHealth.org for more information about how to participate in this unique opportunity for diabetes management and improved overall health outcomes.
