On Sunday morning, a devastating fire destroyed the Butler County Health Department building in Greenville. Sheriff Danny Bond of Butler County confirmed that a 911 call was made around 3:30 a.m., leading to firefighters declaring it a general alarm fire. The building has been declared a total loss and local authorities are working with the state Fire Marshal’s office to investigate the cause of the fire.

Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn stated that at this time, the fire does not appear to be intentional, but the investigation is ongoing. Health department officials have confirmed that no one was in the building during the fire and there were no injuries reported. The Alabama Department of Public Health is currently working to find a temporary space to continue providing services until a new building can be established.
