Recently, a group of over 60 delegates from Seattle visited Detroit to explore the city’s thriving business startup and entrepreneurial culture. President Espy welcomed the group and shared insights into Detroit’s storied history of innovation and entrepreneurship. She also discussed Wayne State University’s Prosperity Agenda, which aims to drive economic success for the community.

Among the attendees were Mayor Bruce Harrell, representatives from companies such as Amazon, Boeing, Microsoft, Starbucks, as well as members from the University of Washington and Washington State University communities. Stacie Clayton, director of community affairs at Wayne State University, organized the trip as part of a four-day benchmarking study mission to Detroit.

During their visit, leaders from Wayne State University toured key locations in the city. Among these was Wayne State’s Hilberry Gateway, Integrative Biosciences Center, and TechTown. These visits provided valuable insights into the university’s impact on Detroit’s economy and cultural heritage.

President Espy emphasized the importance of preserving Detroit’s legacy of innovation while continuing to attract new technologies, companies, and talent to the city. She also highlighted Wayne State’s role in supporting the growth and development of its residents by driving prosperity for the community through its Prosperity Agenda.
