The city of Detroit is taking a proactive approach to addressing mental health challenges within the community through the ‘Protect Your Crown’ campaign. Detroit City Council President Pro Tem James Tate, along with multiple city agencies, has introduced this initiative to approach mental health in a new and collaborative way by seeking input and feedback from residents.

The primary aim of the campaign is to have 5,000 Detroiters participate in a brief and anonymous mental health survey. By analyzing the responses, city officials will be able to identify areas within the city that require greater mental health resources and support.

Tate emphasized the significance of collecting data based on zip codes as it will enable them to understand the mental health needs of different neighborhoods within Detroit. He pointed out that certain parts of the city may have higher levels of depression or other mental health issues compared to others. By pinpointing these specific areas, the city can allocate resources more effectively and ensure that support is provided where it is needed most.

The campaign aims to create a more inclusive and responsive system of mental health care by actively involving residents in the process. Tate and his team are committed to using the information gathered from the survey to make informed decisions and implement targeted strategies to support the mental well-being of Detroiters.
